Doulton Crown Lambeth Ware Vase with griffins
Doulton Crown Lambeth Ware Vase with griffins. This dates from between 1881 and 1903. Crown Lambeth is a fine earthenware. It is decorated by hand and repeatedly painted and fired, which achieved beautiful translucent and rich colour effects. Crown Lambeth was shown in 1893 at the Chicago Exhibition. The production was expensive and there were many breakages, so this is very rare. This vase is similar to one on page 185 of [9]. This vase is painted with beautiful yellow flowers and has gilding on the lip and inside the top. There is a complex writhing base, as though the tails of the three griffins have muddled up together to form the base. There is a burnishing on the base and the griffins. We can't exactly tell what the markings mean. We think prehaps one one of the marks stands for Fanny Elliot and the other A Turner. A stunning work of art. Height 20.5 cm

Width 13.5 cm

Condition is a little sad. Whilst the body of the vase and the griffins is perfect the base has been crudely repaired. There are highlights in the pictures above. It could be restored. Packaged Weight 750g
